Marion Center Speedway started off its Saturday night program with the conclusion of the W. G. Satterlee & Sons Street Stock feature rained out back on June 13. The race resumed with two laps completed and eighteen more to go. Jim Boyer of Indiana had started on the pole and was still the lead car when the race resumed. Boyer never relinquished the lead to capture the checkered flag at the end. Tim White from Punxsutawney was running second much of the feature, but was passed after the halfway point by William Phillips, Jr. of Blandburg. Phillips finished in second place ahead of White who was third. Randy Reitz from Punxsutawney was fourth and Corey Neal of Trade City came in fifth. Tim Bish who had been charged with the caution before the race was called on June 13, recovered Saturday night with a sixth place finish. Next came Nick Goss, Jeff Walters, Chad Covatch, and Ray Reynolds for the top ten. The next feature of the night was the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Limited Latemodel. Rod Phillips is the undefeated champ of the division this season. Others have come close but no one has beaten Phillips across the finish line this season in this race. Phillips started in the tenth position and was the leader for laps six through twenty. Jeff Compton from Jeanette started on the pole and led the first five laps before Phillips from Punxsutawney took over. Then Compton raced Phillips for the lead, but Bobby Watt from Latrobe passed Compton for second place leaving Compton in third. Jeff Weakland from Hastings was fourth and Chris Clark from Curwensville was fifth. Rounding out the top ten in order were Jim Whiteford, Dave Buchanan, Scott Alvetro, Ron Marsh, and Joey Valenti. The Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Limited Latemodel heat races went to Andrew Satterlee, Rod Phillips and Bobby Watt. The Q-102 Front Wheel Drive 4 Cylinder Rice Burners were led onto the track by Tom Whiteford, but Tina Weaver took the lead when the green flag came out. Many cautions happened at the beginning of the feature, taking its toll on the front of the pack. But when things really got underway again, Larry Depp, Jr. from Punxsutawney was the lead car and he kept the lead to the checkered flag. Depp was caught and chased by Bob Pease from Blairsville who finished second, and Tom Pavelko was knocking at the door too, but took third. Fourth place went to Joe Ford from Kittanning and Denny Phillips was fifth. Next in line were Jon Lee, Galen Shaffer, John Putt, Jr., Brandon Reitz and Craig Decker. The Q-102 heat races were won by Larry Depp, Jr., Chris Hickok and Craig Decker. The Lias Tire Latemodel feature was dominated once again by John Britsky from Indiana. Britsky started on the outside pole and immediately took the lead with the drop of the green flag. Never letting up, Britsky kept ahead of the Force Inc. Super Latemodel Championship Challenge competitor, Sammy Stile from Charleroi. Stile started right behind Britsky and was determined to get the extra bonus by winning at both the Dog Hollow Speedway Friday night and Marion Center Speedway Saturday night. With the first half of that accomplished, Stile was going for the completion of the task but Britsky was in-between him and the goal. Stile kept pressuring the leader, but maybe too much pressure as the car seemed to give out a little at the end leaving Rod Phillips from Punxsutawney into second place at the checkers and Stile in third. Dane Laraway from Harrison City took fourth and Dwayne Taneyhill from Bellwood was fifth. Rounding out the top ten were Denton Boyer, Clate Copeman, Matt Gaston, Dave Blazavich and Jerry Redden. The Lias Tire Latemodel heat race winners were Dave Blazavich, Denton Boyer and Bobby Stokes. The Force Inc. Super Latemodel Championship Challenge, where if a driver of the latemodel division at both Marion Center Speedway and Dog Hollow Speedway wins the Points Championship at both tracks will receive additional bonus money put together by sponsors such as Kellar Augering from Creekside, Hugill Sanitation from Mahaffey, Lias Tire of Indiana, and the American Racer Tire division and of course, Force Inc. of Indiana, which at this time is in the neighborhood of $16, 000. This money goes to the single driver who can capture the Points Championship at both tracks in the same season. At this time it’s Sammy Stile who is in the best position for the FISLMCC bonus as he is the points leader at both tracks. Pikel’s Universal Auto Repair Strictly Stock feature was won by Justin Queen from Irvona. Queen started twelfth in the lineup and at the halfway flags was the leader of the race. Bryant Small from Cherry Tree came up from eighth place to take second and third place went to Brett Bingaman also from Cherry Tree. Gregg Buterbaugh from Clymer who started on the pole took fourth place and Kevin Kilgore from Kittanning was fifth. Denny Smith took sixth place followed by A. J. Flick, Mike Lee, Robin Welsh and Nate Smith. Pikel’s Universal Auto Repair Strictly Stock heat races went to Ray Hickok, Jr., Brett Bingaman and A. J. Flick. The second W. G. Satterlee & Sons Street Stock feature of the night was won by Jeff Taylor from Corsica. Taylor started on the outside pole but wasn’t able to take the lead right away. Jim Boyer from Indiana who won the first feature was looking for a repeat performance of the earlier race. Boyer took the early lead and it wasn’t until after the crossed flags came out that Taylor passed Boyer for the lead. Taylor then held onto first place despite the efforts of Boyer, and then Nick Goss of Punxsutawney. Goss started sixteenth in the twenty-car field and at the end was challenging for the lead. At the checkers it was Taylor, Goss, Boyer and then Tim Bish from Ringgold and the driver of the 55 car that has yet to be identified (?). Sixth through tenth places went to Tim White, Jeff Walters, Bill Phillips, Jr., Randy Reitz and Rob Wilkins. The W. G. Satterlee & Sons Street Stock heat races were won by Jim Boyer, the 55 driver, and Bill Phillips, Jr. Next Saturday Night will be the Independence Day Special at Marion Center Speedway with the full five divisions of racing and fireworks by the Starfire Corp. The following Saturday will be Fan Appreciation Night with Speedy the Clown at the track-and the word is out to bring the kids early for some pre-race fun with Speedy like face painting and more. The 18’th will be the make-up date for the rained out Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Limited Latemodel feature and all this is leading up to the Butler Auto Supply Season Championships in September. Also be sure to check the Force Inc. Super Late Model Championship Challenge and Corey Stivason’s Photo Pages. The Marion Center Volunteer Fire Department want to thank everyone for making their 50/50 sales soar this season with last nights winner receiving over $900. See you Saturday night at Marion Center Speedway-“the Thrill on the Hill.” By Don Peffer Results
