Marion Center Speedway’s races Saturday night brought in over 100 cars to participate in the five divisions racing each week at quarter-mile clay oval between Indiana and Punxsutawney. The first division of the night this week was the W. G. Satterlee & Sons Street Stocks. Mike Laughard of Twin Rocks took the lead on the second lap from Jeff Waltco and was doing a fine job of leading the pack by staying ahead of Tim White of Punxsutawney until Rusty Martz from Brookville made his way to the front from starting eleventh. Martz took over the lead for laps thirteen through twenty for the win. White dropped out of the feature at about midway and that left Mike Laughard to challenge Martz the rest of the race. Laughard picked up second, Tim Bish from Ringgold, who was celebrating his birthday, picked up third; Jim Boyer of Indiana was fourth and Rich Waltman of Coolspring was fifth. Sixth through tenth places went to Jeff Waltco, Dave Potter, Jr., Denny Keener, Jeff Taylor, and Eric Baun. The W. G. Satterlee & Sons Street Stock heat races were won by Rusty Martz and Jim Boyer. Next up were the Q-102 Front Wheel Drive 4 Cylinder Riceburners. Chris Hickok from Commodore led the field from pole position starting point until Dan Luzier from Love Joy took over about the time the crossed flags came out for the half-way point. Hickok pursued Luzier for a couple laps and then left the track. It was then up to Larry Depp, Jr. from Punxsutawney to deal with Luzier who was still in the lead. Depp came up short in taking over the lead and finished second to Luzier the victor. Bob Pease from Blairsville was third; Tina Weaver finished fourth, and Jason Joiner from Brookville, who earned a spot in the feature by winning the 4 Cylinder’s Consolation race, was fifth. Rounding out the top ten in order were Steve Long, Stephanie Whiteford, Gary Phillips, Denny Phillips, and Brian Paulson. The Q-102 heat races were won by Dan Luzier, Tina Weaver and Jesse Laughard. The Lias Tire Latemodels thundered onto the track for their feature, being led into the arena by Matt Gaston from Rochester Mills. At the drop of the green flag, Sammy Stile from Charleroi jumped into the lead from the outside pole position and proceeded to lead lap after lap of the feature until John Britsky from Indiana took over the lead on lap fourteen. Britsky was able to hold Stile at bay for the rest of the feature, which went on without nay more cautions (only 3 for the feature that night) and also squelched Gregg Satterlee’s hopes of a three-peat win of the latemodel’s feature. Satterlee started the feature event in thirteenth position and had to fight his way halfway through the pack to be in contention. At the checkers it was Britsky with the win followed by Stile in second, Gaston in third, Saterlee in fourth and Dane Laraway from Harrison City in fifth. Next in line were Denton Boyer, Dwayne Taneyhill, Clate Copeman, Will Cochran, and Jerry Redden. The Lias Tire Latemodel heat races were won by Clate Copeman, Denton Boyer and John Britsky Pikel’s Universal Auto Repair Strictly Stocks took the track next for their feature. This week it was the Justin Queen show for the main event. Queen from Irvona started on the pole and led every lap of the fifteen-lap race for the victory. Brett Bingaman of Cherry Tree started right behind Queen and finished right behind Queen despite all his efforts to get around the leader. Third place went to Nate Smith from Glen Campbell, Gary Furman, Jr. was fourth and in fifth was Gregg Buterbaugh. Sixth through tenth places went to Ray Hickok, Jr. Steve Matko, Bobby Noel, A. J. Flick and Larry McBryar, Jr.. The Pikel’s Universal Auto Repair Strictly Stock heat races were won by Brett Bingaman, Gregg Buterbaugh and Justin Queen. Last but certainly not least for the night was the Hoosier Tire mid-Atlantic Limited Latemodels. Rod Phillips from Punxsutawney is still undefeated in the division taking all three features so far this season. Phillips kept up his winning ways from starting on the pole to taking back the lead after a slip up in lap twelve left Bobby Watt from Latrobe in the lead for four laps. Once Phillips regained the lead he kept Watt behind him for the third victory in a row this season. Watt took second, Scott Stein from Cherry Tree was third, fourth went to Scott Alvetro from Reynoldsville and Jerry Redden from Mahaffey was fifth. In sixth to tenth places were Dave Buchanan, Tom Shaffer, Jeff Compton, Scott Richwine and Randy Smithley. Jerry Redden, Bobby Watt and Scott Alvetro won the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Limited Latemodel heat races.
