This is a picture of Dick Swartzlander getting ready to leave the pits.
I believe the year is 1970.

This is the Indy sprint car that Dick Swartzlander raced at Marion Center Speedway
when the URC sprints visited here, I believe the year was 1966. He started last
and finished second in a very exciting race.

A little history about the car. This car sat on the pole of the 1959 Indy 500 and it almost won the race. It only raced 4 times at Indy. In 1959 it started on the pole with Johnny Thompson finished 3rd. 1960 it the motor broke while going for the lead and Johnny still finished 5th. During the 1960 season the car broke with Paul Goldsmith driving. Don Davis drove the car during the 1962 and last race the roadster was to see at Indy. Don drove the car to a 4th place finish.

With the introduction of rear engine cars for the 65 season the car sat. Dick purchased the car from Herb Porter for the 66 season and converted it to dirt and raced it here in western Pa as well with the URC sprint series up and down the east coast. Tracks like Williamsgrove, Trenton, Langhorne. He sold the car sometime in 1968....
